What Our Students Say
Testimonials
Thank you to all our students
I want to express a very heartfelt thank you for a well taught and put together class yesterday at Mcmichaels. Dylan my 12 year old enjoyed the class very much. He honestly was a bit nervous in coming but after the first break he said that he couldn't wait to get back. You made him feel very comfortable and he now has more tools and knowledge than he had coming into the class. He has been on the water since he was six months old and he has begged me to take him. He enjoyed the class more than he enjoyed his school class.
A class act set of instructers, glad we chose this one.
Thank you again
I really enjoyed the class. The instructor was very knowledgeable and down to earth. He made the class interesting by not just teaching the material, but explaining and showing how each situation can occur and why the rules exist.
It’s so much easier to learn rules and regulations when you know why they exist and what happens if you don’t follow them. They really take pride in their classes, you can tell, because they had actual newspaper articles of accidents and explained what happened and how they could have been avoided. Again, they really showed you the importance of boating safety.
The time flew by in the classroom and before you know it, it was the end of the day and I was taking the exam. They made me feel very confident that I would be able to pass the exam.
I learned a lot of things during this class that will stay with me forever. I now feel more confident taking my friends and family out on my boat.
Thank you very much !!
Thank you Alan and Phil.
What I thought was going to feel like a long day flew right by. The class was enjoyable and informative and I know I will be a safer boater for it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. Undoubtedly, I came out smarter than when I went in. Keep up the good work!
Good evening,
I enjoyed taking your class and I can't believe how much I have learned in such a small amount of time. I could tell how passionate both of you are about boating/jet skiing!
I have been on boats and jet skiis all my life and you have really opened my eyes to how important it is to be well educated and fully understand the potential danger that can happen when one is not. As much fun as a boat/jet ski can be they can also be very dangerous when not used properly.
I recommend this class to anyone that is thinking of going on a boat/jet ski or thinking of buying one. I think you are never too old to learn.
I learned that the simplest common sense things that people over look on a daily bases can potentially be the difference between living or dying.
People always think of going out and having a good time but don't take as much time to make sure that their boat is safe and that they have everything they need in case of an accident or emergency for their guests.
Instead their check list is:
Beer,Wine,Chips,Salsa etc...it should be life jackets, fire extinguisher, etc...
I have never been on a boat where someone has told us where anything is except for the food, beer and bathroom was and that's a shame.
I hope they get the opportunity to have you both as their teachers.
Thank you so much!
Hi Alan and Phil,
Yes, we enjoyed the course very much. The 4 other people with me had no boating experience and I know they learned a lot. I have had boating experience and I too learned several new things that will help keep us safe and the course was well worth it. (I just ordered my vhf radio).
Thanks again!
This class was great, I learned so much from Al and Phil. I feel this class should be a NYS requirement before ANYONE drives a boat or jetski (or an Amphicar). I would highly recommend this class for people considering buying a boat or even if you plan on being a passenger on a boat.
Thanks for all of the useful information!

Hi Guys,
Both my son Jesse and I thought the course was great .
Who would of thought that after 52 years of boating I'm still learning things!!
Thanks again.
The class was excellent, I bought my daughters and wife so that they would know as much as possible when we are out on the water. I definitely picked the right course, the instruction was great and very informative. I have been boating for over 25 years and still learned a few tips myself.
The best part is the kids were discussing some of the topics all the way home, which means they learned something!
I personally made a list of the recommenced safety equipment and look forward to making sure I have what I need to make this summer boating experience a safe and fun one.
Whether your a new boater or just need a refresher I highly recommend this class. I also look forward to the charting course to brush up some skills.
Thanks Again!!!
I really enjoyed the extremely informative boating safety class given by Alan on Sunday August 4, 2013.
I could 'feel' Alan's passion for the sport and I took everything he said as if it were my dad talking to me. Alan had a way of making an 8 hour class seem like minutes by his smooth deliverance. I KNOW this class WILL make me a good skipper, and I would recommend THIS class to ANYONE that plans to ever venture on water, even if you don't own or plan on owning a watercraft. Alan's words were so taken with so much regard, that on every break we got, I was ordering every piece of equipment that he said was necessary.
Alan, I want to wish you the best and just thank you for what you do. I pray that many people will choose this boating safety class taught by Alan & Phil, so that we can keep the waterways safe!
Sincerely,
You did good, you did real good!!
NOW, I can write my book about all the things I didn't know about life on the high seas! Alan was informative, humorous when appropriate and obviously knows/loves his subject. Now I know why this class is mandatory, when you learn the enjoyment AND dangers that you can be faced with when boating.
Keep up the good work!
Hello Alan and Phil,
Thank you for the most informative class. My husband and I learned a lot and really will be viewing boating in an entirely different light after this class. We are kayakers on the Hudson River and knowing what the rules of the boating world are very helpful. I particularly liked the examples of the all the safety gear, VHF radio, the Distress flag and other safety gear.
I so appreciate your current updates that’s what makes the class interesting and less dry. It would have been a miserable course without your wealth of experience and current events updates.
My goal is never to be on the front page of the news with some very basic safety step omitted by myself or my husband. We capsized in our kayaks and were whisked under a low level bridge up near West Point last year and were stuck on the other side of the bridge for 6 hours waiting for the tide to change. We did everything wrong!! So now we are starting the season on the right foot. My husband has ordered the VHF radio etc.
I feel like I’ll be monitoring the Tappan Zee bridge since we live so close!!! Watch out from above!!!
Thank you very much for hosting this workshop on a cloudy day (teehee!!)
Alan you were fantastic! We were so jet lagged and of course after a year away from the US, we kind of had other things in mind to do. BUT, you were like watching a show and your personal anecdotes were so well placed and well conveyed and most of all, they underscored the material so that it was easy to put things into context.
So thank you for turning an onerous chore into a really good day. Plus we all passed.
